Several times this year, and with the intent to make Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a part of their regular training, The Williamsburg Police Department spent time with our BJJ Instructor Gary Alvarez Jr. Gary is a former Corrections Officer of the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office and has a Master's Degree in Adult Education & Training. As such, the grouping was a natural one made possible by Team Link Northampton BJJ Blue Belt and Sergeant at the WPD Jason Soukup. Officers train efficient body mechanics, self defense and control techniques, working against armed and unarmed suspects, and general awareness in high pressure and physical situations. Chief Denise Wickland has shown a revolutionary and advanced intent to arm her Department with skills that go beyond the standard, to ensure public safety and positive outcomes in interactions between her squad and the public.

No-GI Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Available in Western Massachusetts

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be trained in the Gi which is the traditional uniform seen in Martial Arts Training, as well as without the Gi which is referred to as NoGI grappling, submission wrestling, vale tudo, etc… Some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies offer NoGI BJJ Classes, Team Link Northampton is not only one of those academies, but our stable of accomplished NoGI Coaches and fighters are hard to compare to. Speaking nogi accomplishments alone, we have multiple Pan Champions, several Pan Medalists, NAGA (North American Grappling Association) Expert NoGI Champions, ShowTheArt Finishers Sub Only Veterans, and so much more. Team Link Northampton has several competitors that win NoGI brackets at higher skill-rank divisions than their own. Our NoGI Program mixes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with wrestling, sambo, judo, and several other integrations. NoGI BJJ Can also be a great supplement to your Gi game as well as a great start for transitioning to MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
