HERE ARE 5 REASONS WHY
1. BUILDS THEIR BALANCE AND COORDINATION
Everyone talks about how great of an exercise jiu-jitsu is and they wish that they could have started earlier. To get your kids involved in jiu-jitsu at an early age is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. Developing balance and coordination at such an early age will not only keep them fit and healthy, but it will also help your child become an athletic and energetic individual throughout their lives. Although children do not understand the full benefits of what they are doing at such a young age, it is the responsibility of the parents to keep them motivated and continuing to go to classes to attain these great physical skills.
2. BUILDS CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM
Confidence is one of the most important traits for any person to have. Martial Arts have been famous for developing this in people at very early stages in life. As kids become more confident in their techniques and their performance in class, the same will happen with their school studies and their relationships with other people.
3. ALLOWS FOR SOCIALIZING AND BONDING
In BJJ class, children will meet many new friends and share experiences. Whether it is drilling techniques, playing a game or rolling – it is great practice for kids to learn to communicate with other kids of all ages, as well as older authority figures like the instructors and assistant instructors.
"I cannot say enough good things about Team Link Northampton. Tom and all the coaches are fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and supportive. My son loves it and can't wait for class" - Noelle Stern
"Team Link is like my second family. I love training here because everyone us very supportive and helpful. And ... anytime I need a car ride, they always offer to give me one". - Ariel Noe-Larose (14 yr old yellow / white belt)
4. TEACHES FOCUS AND DISCIPLINE
Children will also learn how to listen to an authority figure and follow instructions – more important skills for future development. Children learn various small lessons, like not speaking when being spoken to by an instructor, or even keeping their gi and belt neatly tied. They will even learn about the importance of hygiene because gis must be clean and nails must be cut. The work ethic they learn in the BJJ academy can translate into their schoolwork and future ventures as they grow up. They will learn that hard work and diligence produces results and rewards.
5. KEEPS THEM OCCUPIED WITH SOMETHING POSITIVE
Getting your children to be passionate about something early in their lives will keep them away from harmful influences in the future. The more they train BJJ and spend time thinking about BJJ, the less time they will spend dwelling on things that could be harmful to them. They will also find friends in the academy with the same outlook and it will keep them further motivated to stay out of trouble.
Ultimately, to have your child immersed in jiu-jitsu at an early age is an amazing gift for your child, but it is up to the parents to make this commitment with them. It is the parent’s responsibility to motivate their children and fit the training in the child’s schedule. Even in moments where you may feel that your child is losing interest, find ways to rekindle it. After all your efforts and years past, you will see your mature child thank you for the rewards they have attained from their BJJ training.
4 TO 8 YEAR OLDS: MONDAY / WEDNESDAY 5 PM
8 TO 12 YEAR OLDS: TUESDAY / THURSDAY 5 PM
4 TO 8 YEAR OLD PROGRAM:
Our Monday and Wednesday classes are designed for younger or newer students. We generally say ages 4 to 8, but there are exceptions. We do have some very focused 3 year olds that take the class. We also have some 10 year olds in this class because they feel more comfortable with the format. Another reason a child over 8 may partake in the class would be because they have younger siblings and its easier for parents to have all their kids train at the same time. Whatever works for you and your family, we will try our best to accommodate.
The Monday / Wednesday classes will have exercises and drills that focus on body awareness and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fundamentals. We will address topics like the rules of the sport and how to train safely. Focus and discipline will be a reoccurring theme of this class. Most importantly (to the kids), we will be playing some games!
4 TO 8 YEAR OLDS
8 TO 12 YEAR OLD PROGRAM:
Our Tuesday and Thursday classes are designed for older or more advanced younger students. We generally say ages 8 to 12, but like the Monday and Wednesday classes, there are exceptions. We do have some very focused 7 year olds that take the class. We also have some 13 year olds in this class because they feel more comfortable with the format vs and adult class. As always, whatever works for you and your family, we will try our best to accommodate.
The Tuesday / Thursday classes will consist of warming up, stretching, drilling, technique and sparring. Like the Monday and Wednesday class, we will also address topics like the rules of the sport, how to train safely, focus and discipline. If your child is considering competing, this would be the class for them.
A nice option and unique learning experience for kids in this class is that they can attend any Monday and Wednesday class as well. They would be asked to assist with helping the newer and younger students. It is a great way for them to learn what it is like to help and teach.
